See My Client Scott Morrow, head guide at Outfitter Financial. Scott quit his corporate job on Bay Street to start his own financial practice in 2022. His problem: he didn't have a brand or a presence online. So he enlisted the help of brand expert Andris Pone from Coin Branding to jumpstart his marketing. Andris introduced Scott to me.
Scott LOVES what he does - fishing, hunting and helping people reach their financial dreams. It's so great to work with people who love what they do because there will be lots of happy clients for SMC to interview. Perfect for a great Brand Story.
But don't just take it from me, check out what Scott has to say...
Scott is awesome. He's no longer chasing his dream - he's living it. He sees the parallel between guiding someone to a healthy financial life and guiding someone to a successful hunting or fishing experience. Scott has built a network of friends in the hunting & angling community who he now guides to wealth and beyond. Check out his website at www.outfitterfinancial.ca.
Recently, Scott took me on my first salmon fishing experience. In 4 hours I caught 4 fish - over 20 pounds each! Honestly, I have never liked fishing but it makes all the difference to go with an experienced guide like Scott. You can see I was just a little bit excited.
Here are three important things I learned that day.
1. Go where the fish are!
When we started out at 6 am, we found ourselves in what Scott calls a 'wolf pack'. We were smack in the middle of a fishing derby, so many people in so many boats hoping to catch the $100,000 prize fish. Scott sailed on through the pack to find open water where fish were not under pressure. Do you ever feel like there are way too many people fishing for the same clients? Or do you feel overwhelmed by the amount of money it takes just to be seen online? Here's the lesson: Go into your own open water - with a plan. To hook those salmon we needed to get up at 3am, prepare the right gear, make a lunch, show up early and have the right intention to catch something. We also needed patience - the fish didn't just hop onto our boat. It's the same for everything else in life.
2. Get a Guide
If you don't have all the gear, experience or plan to get what you want, get a guide. A good one. Someone who has been there, done that and has the scars to prove it. Scott knows that every time he pulls in a catch he's standing on the backs of giants, people who have helped him to be his personal best. If you want to go further in business or life, get a guide. Then guide someone else! It's how we can make the world and each other better.
3. Love what you do
If you don't love what you do - stop doing what you're doing. Turn your ship in another direction and away from everyone else's dream. What's your dream? Go for it. It's inspirational to be around people who love what they do and love who they do it with. It definitely makes me feel alive and more energized to live my own dreams. If you don't know where to start, ask Scott to take you fishing. You'll catch some inspiration for sure and likely some dinner too!
Thanks Scott for being awesome!
